The recommended NALT Uniform Citation Guides adopt the ‘Footnotes’ style of referencing, whereby Arabic numerals are used (in superscripts) in the body of the essay to identify sources of document consulted, or the issues sought to be clarified and emphasised.

It is a Nationally approved uniform format and citation guide for legal research writing in Nigeria ratified and adopted at the 2015 conference of the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers held at Afe Babalola University. This is the 2021 version of that guide.

NALT’s referencing guide is birthed out of the need to have an indigenous referencing tool.

The referencing guide was compiled and Prepared by Prof (Mrs. ) Emily I. Alemika, Prof Omaka C. Amari (SAN), and Dr Bethel Ihugba and reviewed by the Implementation and Monitoring Committee in 2021.

The referencing guide is divided into 4 parts.
