The Akwa Ibom State High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2024 prescribe the practice and procedure governing civil proceedings before the High Court of Akwa Ibom State. Made pursuant to section 274 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) and sections 76 and 77 of the High Court Law, Cap. 55, Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2000, the Rules regulate the commencement of actions, filing and service of court processes, pleadings, interlocutory applications, trial procedure, judgments, enforcement of court orders, probate and administration, appeals from subordinate courts, judicial review, and other civil proceedings before the High Court.

The Rules were made by the Honourable Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Justice Ekaette F. Fabian-Obot, on 1 November 2024 in the exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution and the High Court Law of Akwa Ibom State. They comprise 61 Orders, numerous prescribed Civil Forms, and Seven Schedules, providing a comprehensive procedural code for the administration of civil justice in the State.

The principal objectives of the Rules are to establish a modern, efficient, and comprehensive procedural framework for the determination of civil causes and matters before the High Court; ensure the just, speedy, and cost-effective disposal of cases through effective case management; facilitate the use of modern judicial processes, including electronic filing and electronic service of court processes; promote the expeditious determination of suitable cases through the Fast Track Procedure; provide detailed procedures for specialised proceedings such as judicial review, probate and administration, and appeals; and generally enhance the efficient administration of civil justice in Akwa Ibom State.
