The Water Resources(Amendment) Act, 2016 amended the Water Resources Act Cap.W2. Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to review upward the stipulated fines and penalties for offences under the Act. Through the Act, the Minister of Water Resources made the Water Use and License Regulations, 2016.

The Act has 3 sections and was signed into law by the President of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari on the 18th day of November 2016.
