The objective of the Act, amongst others, is to safeguard the fundamental rights and freedoms and the interests of data subjects as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

The Act focuses on crucial aspects such as the processing of personal data, protection of data subjects’ rights, the establishment of a Data Protection Commission, data security, cross-border data transfers and data breach management.
