“Freedom of Information Act Applies To Private Companies, Too”

Freedom of Information Act empowers all persons to request for Information from public officials, agencies or institutions. Public Institution is defined by the Act to include private bodies providing public services or performing public functions or utilising public funds. Hence, a private company, business or NGO providing public services or public function or using public fund are bound by the Freedom of Information Act.

My authorities are section 2(7) and 30 of Freedom of Information Act and the judgment of Federal High Court, Lagos, Suit NO: FHC/L/CS/685/17-OWEI AYIBATONYE & ORS V. NIGERIAN STOCK EXCHANGE.
