Every police station and security agency in any part of Nigeria, must have and keep a “Register of Arrest”. It must be kept in the prescribed form at such places. Every arrest made with or without warrant for whatever reason and for whatever duration must be recorded in the Register of Arrest. It must be recorded by the officer or official in charge of the police station or security agency as soon as an arrest person is brought to a station or an agency.
A register of Arrest must contain particulars of arrested person including; alleged offence, date and circumstances of arrest, full name, occupation and residential address as well as height, photograph, full fingerprint impressions and any other means of identification.
Note that failure to comply or discharge responsibility without reasonable cause must be treated as misconduct by the appropriate authority.
